Kellogg Foundation Helps Youth Fight Gang Violence

The Kellogg Foundation is making it possible for the students of Tomorrow’s Builders YouthBuild Charter School to speak out against gang violence in their community and to offer comfort to families of victims and perpetrators who have been affected by gang violence. With a $40,000 grant, the Foundation is supporting the student’s direct action organizing training, program design and implementation. With a series of demonstrations and community events, YouthBuild students hope to get a clear message out to their peers – “Stop the Violence”. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation was established in 1930 “to help people help themselves through the practical application of knowledge and resources to improve their quality of life and that of future generations.” Its programming activities center around the common vision of a world in which each person has a sense of worth; accepts responsibility for self, family, community, and societal well-being; and has the capacity to be productive, and to help create nurturing families, responsive institutions, and healthy communities.
